Obituary For James Lindsay Glenn

James Lindsay Glenn, born on March 3rd, 1935, in Quatre Bornes, Mauritius, passed away peacefully on 8th March 2025. He was 90 years old.

In the late 1950s, Lindsay, as he liked to be known, moved to the United Kingdom to attend the esteemed Wireless College in Colwyn Bay, Wales. Established in 1920, the college trained Radio Officers for the British Merchant Navy in communications techniques, including Morse Code and equipment maintenance.

Following his studies, Lindsay embarked on a successful career with Stena Sealink, a prominent ferry company operating routes between the UK and Europe. Over the years, he contributed significantly to the company’s growth and reputation.

Settling in Dover Court, Harwich, a town he grew to love deeply and over the course of his more than 40 years in Harwich, he became a beloved figure in the community. His dedication to public service led him to serve as a local councillor for many years, and he had the distinct honor of being elected Lord Mayor of Harwich on two occasions.

Lindsay’s life was one of remarkable variety and adventure. Many will remember him as an aviator with a deep love for flying, a talented musician who brought joy to many, an airfield fireman at Ipswich, a practicing reflexologist, and a dedicated care worker. His diverse interests and talents touched the lives of many, showing his zest for life and the wide array of skills he cultivated.

Lindsay was a man of integrity, compassion, and strong civic duty, and his commitment to his community will leave a lasting legacy in Harwich. He will be deeply missed by his loving daughter, Virginia, his two sons, Clifford and Lindsay, and his four adoring grandchildren: Harriet, Matthew, Jasper, and Florrie.

Lindsay’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life of service, love, and dedication to his family and community will be remembered with deep gratitude and affection.
