I was so sorry to hear about Russ. He really mattered to us. It meant a lot to be able to help him with food shopping and to make him Christmas dinner, and I'll always be grateful for the small, ordinary moments we shared together. He loved Benidorm, and I'll never forget how we both ended up in tears over Ozzy's death – it sounds silly to some people, but it was one of those moments that showed how gentle and genuine he really was. Russ had a difficult start in life, and it never felt fair that someone who had already been through so much should be taken so young. I just want to say thank you for letting us be part of his life in a small way. Knowing him, even briefly, meant more to us than I can properly put into words.

Russ - I will always remember that crazy weekend in Cardiff all those years ago. Sue and I drove over and stayed with you and Sharon in your flat. We had so many laughs - your sense of humour and wit had me laughing all weekend. You cooked for us - took us out, showed us the nightlife and it was such a great trip. Thinking of you Russ with your cheeky smile and laugh. Have great memories of you when you were young - calling me "Eh Eh" and trying everything not to go to bed! Was so glad to see you with the same cheeky sense of humour when you were grown! Have fond memories of feeling part of your family with your lovely mum, playing cards for hours.
